As the owner of Tall Story and a tall woman myself, here is how I went from awkward to confident.
From a young age, I felt like I always stood out in a crowd. While other tall girls I knew reveled in the attention, I struggled with the constant feeling that I was different. My height resulted in some awkwardness in a multitude of situations, but over time I began to build resilience and a sense of individuality. I started to understand and accept that my height was a unique gift that set me apart in a world of diversity.
Like for anyone else, confidence is a journey. Although it has taken many years, I have learnt to embrace my height with pride which in turn exudes confidence. Granted, there have been times when I have had to navigate moments of self-doubt and comparison, but overall, I have realized that confidence radiates from within, and that my stature is just one part of my multifaceted identity.
My mother bought me a little pink sewing machine when I was five years old, and over the years I developed a passion for dressmaking and fashion design. This served me well because as I grew older, and taller, these skills enabled me to design and make clothing to dress my long limbs and a statuesque frame. As the global fashion industry evolved, more European and American brands began recognizing the need for tall-specific clothing lines. But importing this clothing was expensive and unfortunately sizing was not always standard, which led to many ‘hit-and-miss’ purchases. When it came to getting dressed every day, my feelings of trepidation became exhausting, and I grew tired of making do with clothing that was not designed with my height in mind. And so, Tall Story was born.
At Tall Story, we aim to inspire tall women who struggle with self-acceptance and confidence by encouraging them to embrace their height and identity which ultimately demonstrates that self-love and self-expression are universal journeys. We aim to motivate them to celebrate their uniqueness and stand tall in the face of societal expectations.
